Redhot Jumper Value of Alain Mikli frames

I'm looking to purchase a pair of glasses this weekend, and have narrowed my choices down to a French-made pair by Alain Mikli, and a Danish-made pair by pro-design. The Miklis are roughly double the cost of the pro-designs ($380 versus $185, frames only).

Assuming the styling is comparable, are the Miklis of such quality as to justify the $200 in extra cost? I'm not terribly hard on my glasses - I've had two Luxottica-made pairs for five years with no problems at all.

    MikeyF,

I really like Pro-design ( a really good friends of mine is the Western Canada rep for the line ). I've always thought the styles, colors, materials of the line are wonderful. If you are asking if the extra $200 you spend on the Mikli's will ensure that the frame lasts longer than the Pro-design then I would say that the durability of the two are comparable and under normal circumstance they would last the same peiod of time.

While Pro-design might be the Mercedes Benz of eyewear, the Alain Mikli line is the Maybach. That is were the money is well spent, you WILL be noticed, you WILL have people rave about your glasses. In my opinion the MIkli's are the only way to go in this situation.

Thanks for the reply. I think you hit it on the head: the pro-designs are nice; the Miklis are fantastic. It doesn't help that I have some reservations about the durability of the finish on the pro-designs.

You should know, however, that the prices I'm quoting are converted to US dollars. The Miklis are over CAN$500.

Mikli is money for a name and style, but hey, thats wha it's all about. YOur Mikli will make you different, and if thats what you want, that what you need.

I always thought that Prodesign frames original enough!

I dont think Mikli justify the price behind them.

I allso doubt that Mikli have a much beter quality of the workmanship.

Also please check the waranties on those 2 lines!!!

I also carry the mikli line, but doubt the quality is better than others. The rep told me that they pattent the colors on their zyls, so they won't be reproduced by other manufacturers. I didn't buy that explanation, but gave her extra points for a great line of creative BS. (While we carry about 20 styles, they don't sell like our other lines and the same price.)

Having gone through a few patent processes I dont' think anybody would patent colours on a frame. It takes years from application to the granting of patents. If anybody mentions that an item is patented ask them for the number and country were the patent has been granted, then it is real easy to check it on the web.
