    Limitations on Drill Mounts

I was curious as to what your rx guidelines were on drill mount styles. Do you try to fit any script the patient wants in a 3 piece mount, or is there a set of parameters you adhere to?

I recently got into a discussion with a few people on this subject and was suprised that they questioned the range that we currently abide by. Seems some think it is too limited. I tried to explain the practical limitations due to post length, thickness, cosmetics, etc.. but they weren't hearing any of it..

So tell me what's your range?

Have you ever done that 3 peice mount you didn't recommend to begin with, due to customer begging and demanding it, only to have them refuse due to cosmetic issues?

Yes we have done some remarkable rxs in 3 piece mountings, but like most jobs, and frame styles, there has to be consideration for frame size lens material affecting lens thickness and words of caution in care toward the client, saves hard feelings later..

The highest correction I have used in a 3-piece so far is: OD-11.25 +.50 x 165 OS-11.00 +.50 x 70 w/+2.00 add ou. I used a 1.67 index progressive w/ AR in an Escada E58C. Customer loves them and her husband says they're the most beautiful pair she's ever had. If you look at the temple design, you'll see that it covers a portion of the edge thickness.

BTW, Chip, we tried CL's and her eyes are just too dry to tolerate them more than 6 hours.

SURE! Big fat -10 with High luster polish, so when they go dancing their lenses act as a second mirror ball! Gotta love that roll ring look too.

I had a client who was +10.00 in both eyes desparate for a 3 pce, I designed
the lens shape myself and ensured his and the frame PD were the same, used
    1.67 lenses.
they came out really nice and he was delighted with them, he told us he had been to 3 different opticians who had declined to do it.
