    Post Republican thoughts

I just received this via e-mail from a friend.... interesting reading.

Things you have to believe to be a Republican today:

Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's
daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him
and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.

Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is communist, but trade
with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.

The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our
highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.

A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but
multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind
    without regulation.

Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary
    Clinton.

The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in
speeches while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.

If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.

A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies,
then demand their cooperation and money.

Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy. Providing health
care to all Americans is socialism.

HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public
    at heart.

Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but
creationism should be taught in schools.

A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable
offense. A president lying to enlist support for a war in which
thousands die is solid defense policy.

Government should limit itself to the powers named in the
Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.

The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but
George Bush's driving record is none of our business.

Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a
conservative radio host. Then it's an illness, and you need our
    prayers for your recovery.

You support states' rights, which means Attorney General John
Ashcroft can tell states what local voter initiatives they have the
    right to adopt.

What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest,
but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.

    just musing about politics...
Saddam...wasn't Bill Clinto president for two terms between the Bushes.

Cuba, will be eternally punished for allowing the Russians to put missle bases there...

The U.S. should quit giving our money to the U.N. and to every needy country that doesn't use the funds to help it's people, and instead use the money at home to support access to health care.

Jesus does love you, but, I don't believe he condones homosexuality, and neither has anything to do with Hillary Clinton, unless you're implying that she's gay?

The best way to have military morale is having a President that is behind them, instead of one who's against them...

condoms in schools wouldn't be such a big problem, if they didn't start out with 7th graders; which seems to be telling "kids" that indiscriminate sex is OK, just be careful...

The muslim faith is basically a peaceful one, but some factions have avowed, to death, to destroy everyone but themselves, so 911 happens, and a string of attacks on America for the last 20 years, President Bush has many allies support, but a country like Spain is now under the control of the terrorist, all they had to do was blow up a train, tyranny rules...the terrorists flew two airplanes into the world trade center, and another into the pentagon, what would John Kerry's response have been? Or Al Gore's? Thank God George Bush was President...

I am appalled at all the money given to Iraq to rebuild, when we do need money for health care at home...I'm tired of jobs going overseas so that companies can employ cheap labor without benefits. We can no longer afford health care as we've known it, so lets "socialize" it, but we all need access...
To be successful, you need to know what you're doing, like what you're doing and believe in what you're doing....Will Rogers

OR WHAT? What is it, exactly, that George Bush - who was so focused on terrorism prior to 9/11, why, thank God for that, or who knows what might have happened? - what is it that he's done for which you "thank God" so readily?

You mean, maybe, liberating (some of) Afghanistan from the Taliban (and turning it over to the warlords) - or, was it actually turning Iraq into the breeding ground for terrorists he claimed it was before the war?

Yeah, no telling what might have happened, had someone else been president.

I'm missing something here. What information is out there to say that any President would have acted differently on 9/11?

If I remember my history, FDR had assured the country that we would not be entangled in any foreign wars, UNTIL we were attacked at Pearl Harbour. Then he acted quickly and decisively.

In all honesty I believe almost anyone else would have gone after the terrorists and their supporters themselves, rather than divert troops and resources in Iraq under false pretenses. If we had put the same amount of effort into destroying Al Queda and the Taliban as we have against Saddam Hussein, we'd be winning the War on Terror now. Instead I truly believe we have let them slip away and that the war in Iraq has strengthened the terrorist's numbers, resources and resolve.

    Or how about:

"Reach out in the darkness, and you may find a friend!"

Of course we use to sing it as:

    "Freak out in the darkness...."

Hmmm...On second thought I guess you had to be there. :o

W's predicessor didn't react much to attack. Were you referring to scale of attack determining response?

Which predecessor are you talking about? Do you mean President Reagan who withdrew our troops from Lebanon after 200+ Marines were attacked and killed? Or perhaps President Bush who took no action after Pam Am Flight 103 was shot down over Lockerbie? Certainly you can't be referring to President Clinton who found and prosecuted the terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center and the Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

By the way, I once again recommend you read Richard Clarke's book Against All Enemies if you are serious about learning more about the ongoing fight against terrorism through the last 4 Administrations.

Also in case you missed the point, I was referring to the war in Iraq which has done nothing to fight the real War on Terrorism, and in fact has inflamed it. There is plenty of evidence that Bush was obsessed with Iraq both before and after 9/11. In my view his obsession has hurt the real War on Terrorism.
