    Gas permeable adjustment period?

Hi everybody. I recently was fitted for toric lenses after years of wearing glasses. My eyes are very sensitive which is why I had always resisted getting contacts, but I can no longer get reasonable correction from glasses.

My left eye has severe astigmatism and my right eye is relatively normal. Amazingly, the left contact came back from the lab fine on the first try but the right one has been a disaster. I have been in three times now with no improvement in the result- and have been told the lab the contacts were special ordered from has a new person working there and allegedly having trouble. In any case, I was told to wear the two contacts anyway to build up my wear time, although the vision in the right eye is poor enough that I can't drive at all. I discussed this extensively with the optometrist because I did not think it was a good idea, but I went along with it anyway. I'm concerned that this will cause me problems when (If!) I get a functioning right lens since my brain already seems to be working to tune the right eye out completely. Does this make sense? Also, I was wondering if it's normal to experience fuzziness in the corners of the eyes during the adjustment period. My optometrist says it's normal because the left contact has "a lot of stuff in there" due to the astigmatism, but said it might be something I would just need to live with. I've only been wearing the lenses for 7 days and today is the first full day. I understand it often takes 10-20 days to achieve full comfort and vision, which is what I'm hoping for. I drive a lot under normal circumstances and I'm finding it takes me several seconds to refocus with my left eye when I turn my head. I guess I just would like some reassurance- nobody at this office has ever actually worn gas perms and all of my friends have soft lenses so I'm a little concerned about whether this is normal and will go away. Thanks so much for any help, I really appreciate it!

Get a new fitter, preferably one that checks his lenses out before he calls the patient and tells them they are in. Might also help if you had one who knew what he was doing.
