Hello and Welcome! I am pleased to see another NC Optician here. As to the Medicaid idea, if there is a huge amount of traffic, or even better you may want to approach some of the local clinics to see if you could come into their environment and handle the Medicaid work for them, it just may be feasible. It will never be a huge money-maker, but it could be a start for you if you want to do your own thing. Just a thought. Do not be discouraged by all the naysayers. Develop a solid business plan and go for it.

Thanks for the info! Looks like the CLSA study material is a good place for me to get started. I have not got my ABO certificate yet waiting for it ...you know how the snail mail is. I am so excited to get it in a frame and hung up at my office. I have gotten a lot of slack over it taking me 3 trys to pass but I really dont get any experience here with there only being one doc. I basically look for printed study material and I attend the ABO-NCLE conference every year. They offer some really good hands on classes. In Sept. they are offering a introduction to slit lamp useage I am really hoping to get to take that, and last year I got to dissect a cows eyeball!

NCLE Maybe! I have no knowledge of contact lenses what so ever. The doc handles all of that. I think I need to be able to use the slit lamp and some other instruments before working with contacts. I have no idea where to even start. I have an interest in working with CL its just hard to get the experience I need and help I need here in the office because it is just me, the doc, and the lady who gets the phone. Correct me if I am wrong but dont you need to know about contacts to go on and take the Advanced certification?

Thankfully, I passed all the sections. I was really happy! I didn't get any slitlamp experience, though, if you asked me to fit some CL's I think I would be rather lost. LOL!
I am looking for anyone wanting a license, if you hear of any opportunities, let me know!
