Dear Abby:

Optiboard just started "blogs", and I have the opportunity to participate. I know I should be excited, but why? What's the advantage of a blog, and how/why would I use it?

Should I feel embarrassed asking this question? I'm sure all of my friends have blogged.

Thanks for listening...

That sounds like something I've heard before, oh well, point is it took me 8 minutes how to figure out out to respond to your "blog", so when you figure out the purpose, let me know.

I always thought a message board was a blog, I am really confused now. I guess only generation X knows the difference.

    Dear A Blog Virgin -

A blog "forum" is a place where an individual can hold a host-&-post about any topic, much like a forum except that the opinion of the said topic should relate only to the blogger. Others can post comments but the real rockstar on a blog post is the blogger. You then get to flame or fawn the commentors being that this IS your blog.

    Sincerely,

    Optigrrl "Abby" Poster

My son has a blog to which I post on occasion, just to let him know I read it, but I am not exactly sure what a blog is, or why it is called a blog. He sent me a link to a site where I can start a blog. He thinks some of the old cape stories I tell should be written down.Things like what it was like in the old days- 50's and 60's. I agree they probably should be put down but I'm not quite sure of how to do it and what form it should take. I am here to learn, and to let Steve know I saw his AHEM and responded.

Whose blog is this one anyway???

    I get it...I think.

It's an opportunity to talk about myself and things that are interesting to me?

That's what I've been doing on the board, as I've never waited too long for an opportunity to talk about myself!:D

I'm glad I;m not the only one out there that's too old to be up on this high-tech kind of stuff.

I was playing around, and found that you can rate the blog.

    I gave myself and "Excellent"...just because.

    Dear Johns (and all):

The hows and whys behind blogging could go on forever. But I'll keep it short and sweet. Blogging is apart of what is known as Web 2.0 - or the perceived second generation of web-based social communities and hosted services. These include things like wikis, social bookmarking, weblogs or blogs, podcasting, RSS feeds and social software hosted services (Facebook, Myspace...). Web 2.0 basically is the 'humanization' of the internet (or interweb as some Web 2.0 fans call it). Others call Web 2.0 the "participatory web".

This is a very simplified explanation of why blogging exists. Hope that helps. Have a good day. RSS to you all. :)

BTW, you may view my blog here.
