John's eBay find of the week!

Rate this Entry
Lately, there have been some tremendous deals on ophthalmic lanes...anywhere from $4.500 - $9,000 complete. Some look like pretty good deals, excepting shipping, but I love to drive, so even that's not a big issue. However, this listing caught my eye, and after reading the listing, realized that there was one slight detail that makes this deal not such a good deal after all.

The listing is for a complete lane:

COMPLETE OPTOMETRIC EXAM ROOM FOR SALE!!!

Item condition:Used
Time left:5d 15h (May 15, 201008:42:51 PDT)
Bid history:0 bids[Refresh]

Starting bid:US $5,500.00
Even the photo looks pretty good:

However, read the description:
FOR SALE IS:
PHOROPTER, TONOMETER, SLIT LAMP AND TABLE, KERATOMOTER, PROJECTOR, EXAM CHAIR, TRIAL LENS SET, AND OTOSCOPE/OPHTHALMOSCOPE. THESE ITEMS ARE IN VERY GOOD WORKING CONDITION AND WAS BEING USED UP UNTIL LAST WEEK BEFORE THE OFFICE THEY WERE USED IN CLOSED. HOWEVER THE PHOROPTER HAD FELL A FEW MONTHS PRIOR WHILE IN TRANSPORT AND AN ATTACHMENT HAS CRACKED THAT HOLDS THE OTHER HALF IN PLACE. WE WERE USING THIS IN THE OFFICE LIKE THIS BUT HELD TOGETHER BY A HEAVY DUTY RUBBER BAND AND IT STILL PERFORMED WELL.

Dropped the phoroptor, and it's being held together with a rubber band???

What a deal!:cheers::cheers:

    Pupilometer? I just guess at PDs in our office. We can't afford a heavy duty rubber band for our phoroptor, so we give the patient a handful of test lenses, and tell them to hold them up until they can see clearly!:bbg:

    you guys are so lost in old school technology. we use the latest in elastomeric support , panty hose . we use the same for a filter on our edger waste water recycling tank.

    one of the biggest advantages of using the elastomeric panty hose to hold the phoropters together is that the entire phoropter will fit inside it and you can change colors if you like
