United States of Oz?

Rate this Entry
After suffering through what passes for 'news' over the last few weeks I can't help but wonder when we passed into the Land of Oz?

Democrats have no courage, Republicans have no heart and it doesn't appear that either have any brains.

Unfortunately clicking my sneakers isn't getting me out of this nightmare. :(

    Unfortunately, there are no real news channels anymore. Its all opinionated commentary. The free press no longer exists and if you really think about that....... Its pretty scary.

    As far as news is concerned I think it's worse than that even ("opinionated commentary"). My view is that news cannot be unbiased so long as it is written by human hands. Even the selection of what is newsworthy or not is a biased choice even if there is a superficial attempt to make a piece relatively balanced.

    Now your point is valid in that there is little attempt to even give the appearance of seeming to be unbiased, but I think the bigger problem is the tabloidization of news.

    On the surface it's mostly sensational and prurient non-news (did you know Michael Jackson is dead?) and when you get to news it's devisive and unthoughtfull and spun towards inciting a target demographic rather than presenting anything remotely enlightening.

    And that leads me to my last complaint on the news: it's really disheartening. Bad things happen in the world every minute of the day. But does that mean that your world or my world is bad at that moment?

    The earth is being destroyed and the economy is collapsing and and swine flu too...but disconnect for a few days and sit outside and look at the trees and the birds. There is ugliness, true, but it's a beautifull world too and the media alters our consciousness away from that reality.

    "To everything there is a season, and
    a time to every purpose under heaven...
    A time to weep, and
    a time to laugh;
    a time to mourn, and
    a time to dance..."
