I have not been able to pick up any e mails for a few weeks, this is on my office
pc.
I use windows xp, whenever i try to pick them up it tells me how many i have, then downloads the first 12 to fifteen in duplicate, then although the task bar shows it is attempting to download more it is unable to give me any more.
When i try again it gives me the same e mails, as though i have not received them.

Any help would be appreciated, i am not very pc literate so simple instructions would also be a big help

I have the firewall for xp enabled and also mc afee anti virus software

Go to the Microsoft site and look for info on viruses spec to Windows XP, you can download and run those. Do you have anti-virus software?

This happens to me sometimnes. Unfortunately the problem is almost certainly at your ISP. What happens is that the inbox.lock file gets stuck (perhaps when trying to download a large file). The only way to correct this is to physically remove the inbox.lock file. You'll need to contact your ISP about this.

thank you Steve, I will let you know if it solves the problem.

I too had a similar problem, although it was quite awhile back now. Steve is correct - it most likely is on the ISP side. What I ended up having to do, was;

log on to their website
check my email there (not thru outlook)
read and delete
log off

This happened twice, in about as many days. Once they cured their side, it has been fine since.

What JR said will also work sometimes. Another thing you may need to do is delete this OE account, then recreate it.

The above post's are what i would try first. If all else fails......... go into outlook,look under tools then go into accounts. Then select the primary account and view properties. Click on the advanced tab and look for delivery at the bottom. Make sure that the "leave a copy of messages on server is unchecked." That way your downloaded emails will be removed from the server and will not duplicate. Hope this helps..........:)
