Ok, so I have this patient that fell in love with an Escada 3 piece drill mount. She has two requests with her glasses and that is..

1)She wants a Flat top 28
2)She wants Transitions.

So the fact being that I cannot get transitions in poly ft-28. What is the next best thing? Her Rx is about +2.50 with a diopter of cyl each eye, and a 2.50 add. Is there an answer or will she have to give up this frame to be truely satisfied? Thanks for your time!

Hello Aaron,
Sorry that we do not have a Transitions poly st-28.

I take it this lady is not PAL friendly. That is a shame with Seiko and Zeiss 1.67 High Index along with Trilogy and Phoenix all in premium PAL designs just begging to be be put in 3 pc mounts. We also have premium Poly Pals for drill mounts too.

How carefull is this patient with her eyewear? If you explain to her that she has to be carefull, no twisting or pulling the eyewear by one temple when taking them off, you can use any of our other segmented 1.50 and mid index materials.

Before Trivex™, I wore a 3 piece mount with Comfort Ormex TIII Transitions and later Solamax Velocity. I was protective of them in handling and made sure I put them in a case when not wearing them. Many people at TOI wear Transitions development products for field testing that are in 3 piece mounts but also understand that they have to be carefull with them.

I know this will not help you at this time but I will slip here and say by the middle of 2004 you should be able to get Transitions Trivex segmented products.

regards, I hope you can swing this patient into a Transitions PAL...with AR too.
regards,
Jim

From lined bifocals to PAL designs was to refer to lined bifocals as 200 year old technology- essentially unchanged in function and design since they were invented by Benjamin Franklin. Admittedly the designs have changed along with the materials, but the result has not. The wearer will be confronted with the limitations of an "unnatural" visual experience. Able to see at 14-16" and from 27' to infinity but nothing in the middle. PAL designs are the closest things to "natural" vision ( able to see at all distances) that you can achieve with spectacles.- Give that line some polishing and it will work almost ALL the time.
Good luck from hj

Unless the prescription is prohitavely strong and therefore needing a high index material. Put the woman in CR 39 ST, she'll do fine.

Hey I would love her in a PAL too. But despite my efforts she has her heart set on a FT-28. Its a case of someone convincing her to try a PAL a couple of years ago before she was a patient of ours, and not fitting her properly so that she had a horrible experiance. Even though there are no trust issues here, she is definetly against trying a PAL thinking that it is not for her. I only pushed so far before giving up because above all else, I want my patients to trust me and feel comfortable here. Thanks for the info. I think I will have to go with a cr-39 ft.

I agree with Chip, I remember that some of the Escada's (3pc rimless) have nylon screws (actually nylon bolts you cut to the thickness of lens) If the patient is not a professional wrestler it will work out just fine. I have made plenty of this type and never had one come back broken.

I'd third that, no reason to sweat using tng cr-39 ft-28's; do it all the time, and why not? keep the lens small, the edge strap about 1.6mm, safety the drill holes, and the edges, and no problem...have some understand with her that these mountings are somewhat fragile, and therefore, you don't warranty lens breakage on them, so "take good care of them!"...
