US PATENTS GRANTED FOR MICRO-TINT&reg SYSTEM
(October 2002) OMS announced today the granting of the first patent covering it's Micro-Tint&reg System. For the first time ever in the field of optical lens treatment applications, patents have been granted on new technology products as well as the new application procedure of tinting lenses, which will soon be in daily use in every optical business around the world.

Patents within the European Community will be forthcoming within the next few weeks as well as in many other countries around the globe. This will allow OMS to become a major player in the field of optical lens tinting which is becoming more complex with many different lens materials coming on the market. According to the company, all tinting problems can easily be solved with the patented new tinting system and application methods. Tinting plastic articles
AbstractPlastic articles, especially plastic optical lenses are tinted by immersing the plastic article in an aqueous dispersion of tinting agent and exposing the dispersion and immersed article to microwave radiation to bring the dispersion to ebullition; the ebullition is maintained for at least 2 seconds with transfer of tinting agent from the dispersion to the article to tint the article; the tinted article is removed from the dispersion and rinsed with water. The method achieves tinting in significantly shorter times than conventional methods and employs water-based dispersions thereby avoiding emission of vapors of organic solvents.
