Pete,
The most obvious being the "shade" of the lens at rest, the sunsensor is darker, about the same shade as an xtra active when its deactivated...the sunsensor does have a slight greenish color to it so you won't get it mixed up with the xtra active.
The other way is take the lens and touch it to a handstone (the edge of course) the sunsensor is a midindex material(1.56) and the matrix makes it a fairly brittle material so it tends to produce a "powder" as well as has a distinct feel as you grind at it...sort of a "hardness" to it, hit it on a dry wheel it even make a high pitched sounds as you turn it and put a little pressure to it....and if all else fails the nose knows :-) ..you can tell the difference by touching them on a stone and smelling it, transitions and sunsensors smell differently..sunsensor alwyas reminds me of a dishwashing soap smell..beats the rotten eggs of some of the higher index polymers :-)
Someone else may know some other tricks...these just happen to work for me, since I handle lens all day long (grinding them) I can spot them just by the hue..
