What are the pro's and con's of tinting Transition lens.

Hello BBLA,

The only "pro" I can think of in tinting a Transitions Lens is the customers personal preference....

I never cared for any tint, so I am a bad reference on this subject! Sort of the Woody Hayes mentality on the forward pass, only 3 things can happen and two of them are bad.

It can be and is being done everyday somewhere.

Maybe some Optiboarders can come up with better "pro's"

As for the "cons"....it wipes out any warranty what so ever.

It may be tricky because Transitions is available in so many lens materials, all with different dyeability parameters (some very easy, some very hard to tint).

If the tint bath temp is not monitored properly (do not go over 88°c bath temp) or the lens is left in the bath to long, the lens hardcoat can be damaged, causing microcracks and peeling later.

(BTW, We use non tintable hard coats, so only the backside of SF product will tint, none of the FSV can be tinted because they are dip coated)
regards,
Jim
