Jim, I just got a statement from my lab and they included a couple of mailers from Transitions entitled "Discover how smart our new lenses are .They are really something with the film that gets dark when exposed to the sun.A great demo product. My question is: Are they available to the professions? and How do we go about getting them?
Thanks

Hello HC,
You are describing the new Transitions Lens patient brochures. You can order these brochures online from our transitions.com website or fax in an order to our fullfillment center in Seattle (888.316.6010).
regards,
Jim
Harry,
We contacted our wholesale lab and they had a POS order kit sent out to us. Except for the light box display, most of the promo materials (dispensing mats, brochures, one lens demo card, and care tags) are free. You can just fax your order in.
:( I want the light box but I've been told that we don't need one just take folks outside. During the day this is actually a great idea but the last time I checked this won't cut it at night. ;) Anyone have any good arguments that I can use to get the display?

hey jo,
just tell them that a black light would also be helpful in checking UV absorbtion of lenses.
:)
They do look good, and I think cosumer confidence is boosted when they see this high tech gear they have to mimic the sun. :)

Jo,
The UV meter is an effective way of demonstrating the tint in the evening, but anytime really.
Ours put a circle of darkness in the center of the lens when it reacted with the UV. It was very effective in showing them both the darkness and lightness simultaneously as well as how rapidly it changes back.
I think it was more effective than taking them outside!

As long as you are buying a light, see if you can find a hand held black light magnifier. You'd be really amazed to find out what you don't see about fitting rigid contact lenses. ( A little caution though, now that we have told the public UV will cause them to rot and turn to dust, some of them are apprehensive about being viewed under UV.

Hello Cindy,
You have to be carefull using just any uv or light source for demo purposes. I know of a person who uses a small camera flash unit to activate lenses or photochromic dye samples and it grossly overstates the darkness and depth of color. He does not do this with patients, it is for his own interests.
Our Transitions demo unit is timed at 45 seconds of activation at 370 nm. This is just enough energy to give a patient a good representation of the color and does not darken the lens so dark that the customer will expect welding goggle darkness out doors.
You may want to source a 370 light if you do not have one of our demo units.
regards
Jim
