Out of the latest NAO newsletter:

According to the 2004 U.S. census, there are:

66,000 Dispensing Opticians in the U.S.:

21,780 work in health and personal care stores

19,800 work in an optometrist's office

6,600 work with physicians, including ophthalmologists

13,860 are in optical chain stores

3,960 are independant Opticians

Now then, what the heck is a "health and personal care store"? When I read that, I think of a vitamin shop. It seems there are more of us working there than at OD or OMD's or even chains!

33% personal care/health stores
30% with ODs
10% with MDs
21% chains
6% independent

Or,
40% in professional settings
54% retail
6% independent

What is their definition of "dispensing optician". Many of these could be the Od's receptionist that covers while everyone's at lunch.

It would be interesting to know...

Should've used my finger.
