Listen to this crock....

I called to activate my new Victoria's Secret card and was offered their "super-duper credit proctection plan." One of the benefits was "the ability to run a credit check on professionals like a medical doctor..." Are you kidding me???? Why would a patient need to know my credit history!!! HIPAA is supposed to safe-guard patient privacy, what about my privacy??? Someone should fight for this to be a privacy violation for healthcare providers!!!

seems like a major HIPAA problem there.

Anyone can run a credit check on anyone else if you have the correct information and the money to do so (I believe it's about $40 to run a credit check/background check). I'm betting some states tie a medical license to a SS# - and I'm betting some if not all of states tie their database information into a national network.

I highly doubt any of your patients are going to spend money to check your credit report. If it's free I doubt anyone will do it. What would be the point and who would care?

Our office would be more than happy to help any patient that has an additional $40.00 burning a hole in their pocket.:D On the other hand if you don't trust your doctor, it's time to find a new doctor.
