View Full Version : Essilor Phi tracer issue

Recently I tried sending a tracing from our Essilor Phi tracer to a non-Essilor lab via VisionWeb. The tracing never arrived. I called the Essilor instrument division and spoke with the Phi support person, who told me that tracings from the Phi can only be sent to Essilor labs
While I figure the guy is actually telling me the (frustrating and infuriating) truth, I figured I'd check with our community. Anyone know anything about this? any work-arounds?
Thanks all.
any work-arounds?
Thanks all.
Sounds like your already getting "The Work Around" :bbg:

Don't you mean "worked over?"

PHI tracers (like mine) are older, and utilize a non-OMA compliant communication protocol.
Essilor's newer RAE tracer (optimizes also for wrap frames & lenses) *does* feature an OMA compliant protocol, but it will NOT interface with any present Essilor edger, because they are not OMA compliant.
Again, go figure. My PHI is gathering dust...

Their should be a way of converting the data over into a OMA compliant format, but I don't know what that would take and if it would be worth it. You may ask the Essilor people for some information on their protocol and then check the VCA site for the OMA protocol and maybe hire a programmer to make you a conversion tool. If you get me the essilor protocal I may be able to help.

The new RAE tracer does interface with the new Essilor Sigma II edger which is available from GerberCoburn.
Depending on the software version in your Phi tracer, it can be used in either Phi, OMA or Gerber mode.

Harry, thanks for the offer. Right now this is more a frustration than a burning issue, but if it becomes more of a problem, I'll see if I can get the protocols.
And Thumbs: the Phi tracer I have is white with a blue-green hinged lid. The version of the check/trace software I have installed on the computer is 6.01. Can you tell from this whether my tracer can use OMA, and if so, do you know how I can change the settings?
Thanks very much, all! :)

Thanks...I didn't know that.

You have to look at the eproms on the board inside the tracer and let me know what version is on the eprom. If you don't know what the eproms look like, they are black about 1/2""w x 1 1/2"L and have a bunch of silver legs on each side. They will have a sticker on the top with the version of the program. If it is capable of being put into the OAM mode, you will need a barcode to reprogram and specific instructions.

Thanks :) I'll check that out and PM you with the information -- probably tomorrow, we have no patients.
