You had better be a “gogetter.” It sounds like you have a lot of going and getting in front of you. Most of the administrators of the Medicare and Medicaid programs in each State have periodic classes in billing. Call them tomorrow and explain your dilemma. Many vocational schools (high school and Community Colleges) have classes in billing. Network with other practices in your area. Maybe you will find an angel who will take you under their wing.

However, your boss sounds like a dufus to have ever allowed his business to fall into such a sad state of affairs. Hopefully he will support you in your efforts.

You will find a lot of good council right here on OptiBoard but just remember, we cant do your job for you. Best wishes.

Years ago when I worked at a medicaide mill we did all the ins. fileing on a computer. The on-line forms werent too complicated. I would contact all the ins. companies you will be billing they might be able to give you their web-sites where you can download the nessesary soft-ware and be able to send you a program manual.

As per equipment, check out the optiboard marketplace or pick up a 20/20 or Vision Monday.

Good Luck, Cleaning up other peoples messes can be a daunting task.

Also, if you are currently using Eyefinity for billing VSP, you can also use it to bill Medicare and Medicaid. You do have to 49 cents per claim though, but at least you know you're doing right.

There are many insurances you can bill through Eyefinity and for the 49 cents it's worth it for the convenience. Most large insurances have a website to bill through and the small ones all take a HCFA claim in the mail. All of them will give you a breakdown as to what is paid and what the patient pays and the big ones have a procedure manual they will send or fax. If you dig around over there you will probably find them anyway. Good luck cleaning up the mess. Actually one of my favorite things to do is go into an office in dis-array and put it right. Immensely satisfying.
