Hi all,
OK, I'm stumped... I've got a px, has 3 pairs of specs - 1 clear, 1 polarised (both progs), and 1 pair s/v near. All in the same script. All made at the same time. The designs of the progressives are the same.

The clear and the near are fine. The polarised gives him headaches in the RE whilst outside. Inside is fine

PD and heights are fine. Wrap and tilt ok. Script is fine. Px has worn polarised lenses before. The axis of polarisation is ok.

Dispenser says they're ok. Lab says they're ok.

Any ideas?

Hi ,
You say the px has worn polarized lens before check the color differance from old pair and new pair of polarized lens. also base curve and add power differance. had a patient experence the same problem.

I had to change lens color to correct my patient problem.

Good Luck
Don

Will you describe the frame that the sunglasses are made into? Are they 8-base frames?

If so, have the powers been compensated, prism, et. al?

Is it possible you've "wrapped" his sunwear, and he was 6-base before?

Wrapping progressives is a tricky thing. Talk to Allen Weatherby, Harry Chilinguerian, or Darryl Meister for more input.

Aagh. That's the weird thing. They're flat as a tack - they are an optical frame not a sunnies frame - definitely nto wrapped.

Add power is the same... Tint is grey 85%.

Just because you have checked most everything else . . .
I would check for a slight wave in the lens or coating, or even the polarizing film Had something like this happen before. I couldn't see the wave, even with our large North-facing window. Finally when checking the lenses for the 4th time, I saw the slightest blip on the mires in the lensometer. New lens fixed it. This is hard to check on an autolensometer, but a very slight wave may only be bothersome in bright light. OR
Maybe is is light induced. Since you said that these are not a wrap frame, maybe light around the perphery is bothersome.

Add to that....

Make sure the polarization does not have stress marks from bad edging/sizing.

OK, dumb question - how do I do that? If the edging job looks ok, does that mean that the polarisation isn't under stress?

Hold another polarized lens in front of the lenses and look for stress marks.

The Effect Of The Polarization Axis Is Most Likely Your Problem. A Large Frame Is Always A Problem With Polarized Lenses. What Brand Of Lenses Are You Working With?

You Really Need To Check Every Pair Of Polarized Lenses Before Edging. You Will Find A Bunch That The Manufacturers Markings Are Not Correct.

Use A Computer Terminal To Set Your Polarization.

Am using Essilor Physio 360s. Sent the lenses back to the lab, and they tell me it's ok. I'm going to try putting a little more panto tilt on the frame, to see if that fixes things. If not, I'm thinking about remaking them as non-polarised.

Thanks for the ideas though
