Hello Everyone,
Sorry for my delay in answering... I've been away from my computer...
But, THANK YOU for your kind words of welcome!
Steve asked that I kind of formally introduce myself here...
So,
I'm Laurie, and I'm glad to be here.
I started out in opticianry working for my mother over twenty years ago...(did you know that Jackie L...formally Jackie O is my sister!)
We have another sister who is an optician as well.
I went through an opticianry program in Boston in 1981, and moved back to the city shortly after graduating.
Prior to getting into opticianry education, I was quite involved with optical politics. I was the President of the opticians society in Massachusetts, and have been closely involved with two deregulation threats...in Mass, and here in Florida. So if I seem
fiesty sometimes, it is the political part coming out!
I have been teaching for over ten years now and I have great hope for our field. We have increased our enrollment tremendously due to the availability of technology, enabling us to produce distance learning courses.
In fact, our group (National Federation of Opticianry Schools) plans to meet with the opticianry faculty in Europe soon so that we may become an International organization, and share course materials over the big pond.
Thanks again, and I look forward to posting updates in formal education, and helping people connect with optical education opportunities.
