Grand Prix 2 Score ?

Does anyone get how the score is calculated? Seems as though the better i do the lower my score is.

It is definately the crappier the time the higher the score......I took a loooong time and got 2nd place, but when I did a pretty quick run I scored poorly.

The score is equal to the time it takes you to complete the course, although the game time is slower than real time.
