Hi Jake!
Yep, this is Hostrocket. All in all they've been a very good host. Other than the one incident in which they lost my site for 39 hours, the service has been very reliable and fast. The only other problems have been related to their VDI backbone, but this has improved a lot in the last few weeks.

any issues with slow downs mid-day? etc.

Yeah - gzip is enabled and I haven't noticed any slowdown issues related to the time of day. The only real slowdowns have come from VDI problems.

VDI?
and... is gzip actually enabled? ...if ya know what i mean. Like, have you run these forums through one of those gzip checker thingies to make sure the output is actually gzipped?

Yep - I've verified that gzip is enabled by running it through the Leknor site.

VDI?

VDI is one of the major Internet 'backbone' suppliers. They provide the bandwidth that many ISPs and web hosting companies use.

persistant connections on or off? I assume they are off since it's a shared box.
you mentioned you had an issue with the max # of connections being reached. was this is p connect on or off?
you also mentioned hostrocket doubled the ammount of max connects for you. Did this fix the problem?
I'm getting the corporate plan right now. We'll see how it flies.

I turned persistent connections off. And since doing that plus HR upping the max connections, I've rarely had any problems. The only times I've gotten 'unable to connect to database' error messages is when they reboot the server or mySQL. Even then it's a very temporary situation.
