Just when you are about to admit yourself to a "rest" home, or about to yell "STRONGER GLASSES WILL NOT MAKE YOU SEE BETTER WHEN YOU HAVE CATARACTS AND MACULAR DEGENERATION!" to a 98 year old lady, someone comes in with a small gift to show their appreciation for your above and beyond service. (usually ruining a really good self-wallowing pity-party you were throwing for yourself.)
One of our clients is a brewmaster for a local micro-brewery, so he dropped off a "sample" case for each of us. There were large bottles of the best beer I ever had, some dark and bitter, some smooth and creamy, but all delicious and used to wash down some steak and seafood on a hot summer day. Another client brought us a card and a small plant, some bring homemade baked goodies, and one berry farmer brought us a whole big basket of fresh berries, and did't realize at first that there was berry juice running all over our office furniture.
Somebody say beer?

Dave forgot to mention the BC Lions game tickets he and I were offered last year, from someone affiliated with the team. Too bad at the time I didn't realize the 'value' of these tickets-- could have maybe used them as 'incentive' for a big order from someone!

Once got a racing tip from a patient; it came in 7 to 2. Then there was the local theatre who often gave us free tickets for making up plano stage glasses. More recently the shopping centre our store was in were doing a smoothie drink promotion and we ended up with a box full of the stuff. Plus various boxes of chocies through the years.

Accept every gift as you would a reccomendation.
I think that any px that brings in a gift be given a discount voucher either on the spot or via main to the value of 20%
Not only does your current px love your service but they want to express it to you. You can only imagine the amount of verbal advertising that brings.
By rewarding their gifts with further encentives your sales will only increase.
Embrase your blue haired compatiriots and hold them closer. Enquire about their current eyewear needs along with any improvments they deem necessary. Everyone they live with in the nursing home is more than probably thinknig the same.
Use them for trials. Invite them to try new lenses. These people are the voices of the community. Use them to your advantage.
And thank them. Most of these people have been through wars that we can not imagine. Tell them that you appreciate everything they have done. We wouldn't be here today if it wasn't for them.
We are here beacause of you. Let us make tomorrow, what you have made today for us

One of my favorite and most quirky bosses was from the "old school" of opticians and the man, for all his quirkiness, was an optical genius! (He kind of reminds me of Mr Magoo and he still to this day insists on wearing the large Porsche frame that you can interchange the lenses :hammer: ...)
ANYWAY ... the man could fix ANY frame damage and the end results were usable.
The little old ladies would thank him and ask him if there was anything they could do to show their appreciation ... he, being divorced, would finally give in and tell the ladies that the next time they baked an apple pie, to remember him ...
You have no idea how many pies that man got ... amazing ... ;) simply amazing ...

Not to rain on a parade, but we had a patient that left us a big present in the bathroom last week. Not all presents are good ones. :finger:
