the portion of the example question, where i tis worked out step by step has:

tan angle of deviation = 6/100

I just figured it was from the 6 diopters..


I don't even think this is on any test I'm studying for, but I don't want to go past it with out learning this. A lot of these formulas build on one another

I'm not sure what you mean...
You're given the power of the prism and the index, and you're asked to find the apical angle.
So, you need an equation that describes the relationship between apical angle, prism power (D), and index of refraction (n).
It's in there, I'm sure. If you don't figure it out, I'll try to look at it tonight and post a reply.

I'm going back a few pages and starting over. I had to have missed something....
