Does anyone know where it stands in regards to Opticians and Optometrists working together in Ontario. I had read a draft about 1 1/2 years ago proposing that it be changed.
I think it would be great! The college of Opticians has no problems with this (yes I have asked). The Association of Optometrists has no problems with this - called them too. Just the College of Optometrists seems to be indifferent... Any updates???
I think it is what needs to happen to avoid these Great Glasses - like companies....

My understanding is it still has to be seperate. Complete joke in my opinion.
On a related note, what is happening with cost plus/retail and OD's.
There have been several drafts circulated around. Minor changes each time. Eventually it will be accepted; I'm starting to see many OD offices that have opticians working there anyway, even though it's still technically a no-no.

and to cost plus versus retail?
I don't know of any plans to change that, but I could be wrong.

I believe that optometry practices that dispense will be able to charge either fee or mark-up/retail as long as they remain consistent in their office.

It looks like it will still be cost plus BUT cost will include "the disbursements incurred in acquiring the materials" and there won't have to be a breakdown on the receipt unless the patient asks for one.

So cost of the material, coatings and such (each) plus a fitting fee (so retailish)?
