LUXOTTICA BUYING SAFILO????

One of the local reps came in yesterday with this information. Has anyone else heard the same?

Have not heard and highly doubt it. Safilo is too big.

Our Safilo rep claimed no knowledge of such a move... however, WJ was just purchased by Ciba (oh, its still pending... but our Ciba rep says it should go through), so I suppose big companies do merge.

The Italian press have been reporting the Luxottica-Safilo rumor for the past week or two. The more recent reports however are hinting at a forthcoming relationship not between Luxottica and Safilo, but between Safilo and the company that owns Gucci. A Safilo board of directors meeting will be held Friday June 9, so a formal report may come soon.
