View Full Version : LifeRx Delaminating?

I personally don't like the LifeRx product - I prefer the Trivex lens for a photochromic D-28 alternative to CR39, but my predicessor sold plenty of the LifeRx lenses. I've now had my third patient in two weeks come in with delaminating lenses - I had no clue the LifeRx lenses were laminated in the first place. Anyone else have this problem?

I've never seen it. You may want to contact Vision-ese.
I have had zero problems also. I do prefer the trivex version. I would contact Vision-Ease!

Had it in one job. It was a rimless and the delamination was nasal where the forehead/bridge hit the sweaty face. I think perspiration got in the groove and made it to the laminate.

Yep, not only delamination, but pretty severe yellowing after about 6 mos to a year of use in the sun.

Yeah, these are pretty yellow as well. When I called the lab for a remake under Vision-Ease's warranty they told me this pair was one of the very first they had run (about a year ago). Looking at them, they look similar to the old Transitions III after two years of constant UV exposure - very yellow.

Fezz and Audyoda - you say you prefer Trivex. Why? I find it darker in the clear state. Haven't had any problems with LifeRx. Customers like it.

After finding out some more information, I have to clarify my comment. It seems the yellowing product I saw wasn't a customer return, but was left on someone's roof for a few weeks as a "test."
So, our lab has not directly experienced any problems with yellowing. But we have had a small percentage returned for problems with delamination.

Maybe my patients are doing the same thing?? :bbg:
I've seen two LifeRx come back that are very yellow - I have one on my desk right now. From the looks of it I'm thinking the yellowing is from the UV cured glue that's used in the lamination process.

Darker? I have a pair of D28 trivex transitions V sitting in front of me and they register at 93.5% transmission in their unactivated state - that's 6.5% blockage. Barely noticeable.
Anyway, I prefer a product that doesn't delaminate :D I also prefer a product that has does not issues with any chemical exposure. The darkest I've been able to get any LifeRx lens is just over 60% - I can get trivex with transV down to 78% consistantly. It's an overall better product for my patients at roughly the same cost.

I really like Trivex/Phoenix material. I have been using less and less polycarbonate. Trivex works better for me in many applications. I have yet to get a drilled rimless back with cracks or chips at the mounting holes when using trivex. I know there are chemicals to eliminate the poly problems(Drill Seal-OMS), but I still prefer trivex. This delamination situation also steers me towards trivex.

Just wondering - has anyone had delaminating issues in 2007 with these lenses - ?
we had 20 or so last year- and when i was asked to send them back - i was informed by VE - that they had some glueing issues with them -
how it was explained to me - is that they use a glue compound - and for some reason a very large batch - with multipul lot numbers - where recalled - and that was the explanantion i was given -
I don't think the product is all that bad - and most pts like it -
i will say - i did get a bad taste for them - because of this problem - and even now - i will not use them in semirimless - just because i don't want to increase the poss. issues with it coming apart - even though i am told i don't have to be concerned with that any longer that this issue is corrected
but i stil stick with the poly trans. v- if i can

As long as I can get a trans V in a D28 and now a D7x28 in trivex, that's what I stick with.

Now we need 7X28 Trivex Trans V. Needed one of those today. Sigh.:(

How did this lens win a OLA Award of Excellence? Of course I've always wondered what the OLA is smokin' when they hand out those awards.

Well, it was hard, but in keeping with Optiboard rules, someone finally managed to bash labs in this thread. Congrats.
The OLA Awards of Excellence are determined based on voting of the member labs. I can't speak for every OLA member, but typically votes are cast based on the lab's experience with a product in terms of their overall business. Products that generate incremental unit sales are more likely to gain votes than products that are merely generational upgrades. So if OLA members were smoking something when they voted for this (or any other) product, it's probably because someone else was smoking something and ordered the product.
