Ok, not that being a novice it all that awful, I mean there is no where to go but up right? I am sure this is explained somewhere on the board. Do I just need to post a million times to get more stars or what??? Steve, how much do I pay to get upgraded to expert??? :)

Karen,
You're on the right track. I've been working on a hack to the programming code that allows me to set up to seven membership titles - all based on how many times a person has posted a message.
I'm not sure if this hack is going to work, but I can guarantee that I'll be changing the titles. Any suggestions on titles for the seven levels?

Karen:
The best way to upgrade your novice status is to attend the OAA convention in New Orleans in two weeks. The National Association of Old Opticians (NAOO) will be holding some seminars. You won't be a novice when you get home. An example of our course offering is "Receiving Free Beads on Bourbon Street 101."

EYERX,
On this Board you have to earn your stars by participating. The more you participate, the more stars you earn. :)
Could I also please ask that you not type your messages in all capital letters? This makes them very hard to read and is considered SHOUTING on the Internet.
Thanks!

Steve,
In reference to the 7 levels an Optiboarder can be,how about the 7 dwarfs? Grumpy, Sleepy, Doc, (Was there a Sneezy?) Guess I should have done my Disney homework before posting. Does anyone else know the remaining 4?

OK Steve, first things first.....I love the new "Who's online" section, now we just all need to get ICQ or instant messenger so we can throw an entire day out of the window instead of just an hour or so...lol
Second,I'm glad to see that I've been promoted from Novice to Apprentice, however...The very least you could do since I am not only a great guy, but a LONG time Optiboarder is make my stars twinkle like yours do http://optiboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif . I happen to think I have a very twinkly nature (not to be confused with a twinky nature)
Third and probably most important, My suggestions for the Levels of Membership:
1-2 Posts....Lurker
2-4 Posts....Someone with a Real Job
4-10 Posts...Strong Silent Type
10-15 Posts...Yeah, But..
15-20 Posts...Opti-Nerd
20-30 Posts...Optics Lover Extraordinare
30 + Posts....Darrisi (which would be like a flock or a herd of Darris'

Anytime you talk about seven of anything, the colors of the spectrum Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet come to mind (they actually use this as a guide in electronics for capacitors and stuff)... that would be pretty ambiguous (and lame) in our situation, however... so how's bout:
Visitor
Freshman
Sophomore
Upperclassmen
Graduate
Post-graduate
Fellow
or a less academic approach...
Dionysus
Hades
Demeter
Hermes
Artemis
Apollo
Zeus
(Greek gods, from least to greatest)...
On the other hand, I'm sure Darris will be posting a suggested list that will, creatively speaking, "blow the rest of us off the water" (actually, that's nautically speaking, I suppose ;^)...

As another floydian how about
1-lost for words
2-keep talking
3-high hopes
4-comfortably numb
5-paranoid eyes
6-one of the few
7-the final cut
thankfully no longer immortal
but a bit long in the tooth 2ba Apprectice

I was actually wondering what "apprectice" was?LOL I thought that I may have put it in for some reason and misspelled it. I checked and realized that it was not me. Thank God :)What does one have to do to get their stars to twinkle? (since Chad brought it up)I also like the "Who's on-line". There are actually 8 of us on right now. Don't ask me why I think that is so cool. Probably because I have no life and have to live vicariously through others.
Take Care!

I just noticed that there were 14 people on OptiBoard at one time today. Wow!
Believe it or not, this Board does have an ICQ option. I don't know how many people use this though. The other option is for people to go into the Chat room when they see other Members on line. Granted this would be difficult to coordinate though. I'm going to see if I can write a code hack that will show when someone is in the Chat Room. That would be very cool!

I guarantee that it'll take a lot more than 30 posts to make it to the top! :P

Steve, I hope I remain as an immortal. If not, please change it to immoral. Since I work in an unlicensed state, I cannot serve an apprenticeship, so I guess that puts me at a higher status than those that are licensed.
All kidding aside, I think the board looks great!!!
Keep up the good work.

Steve, I was just curious on what the feature member of the day was about. I also noticed it changed since the last time I was on earlier today. Just an observation!
See you on the board!

The "Featured Member" is part of the Inlijne Stats hack I installed a few days ago. Essentially it chooses a random registered member once per day. It's just another way of getting to know your fellow OptiBoarders.

Too bad we can't post pictures to the OptiBoard with our registration (they could be a part of the "who is" section... that way, we could "see" the OptiBoarder of the day (and recognize each other at National Conventions ;^).

I've been falling down on the job haven't I? :-)
Well, seven indications for the lack of a real life here are mine.
1) 1-5 D
2) 5-10 DA
3) 10-15 DAR
4) 15-20 DARR
5) 20-25 DARRI
6) 25-30 DARRIS
7) 30 + Posts....Darrisi (which would be like a flock or a herd of Darris' (I liked Chads last one so I figured I'd incorporate it here :-)
Not that I'm stuck on myself or anything, but I just think everyone should be able to be Me at least once in their life :-)
Ya'll take care and sorry I'm a little late.

Mista Pete, check out my profile. I used a free site called Webshots to upload some pics into a gallery and then copied the link into my profile. It was easy and free (my favorite price.
