I am a consumer that purchased a Modo frame a while back. Unfortunately for me, the titanium frame broke on one end of the bridge. Another bad thing, the place where I purchased the eyewear said they could not help me out. Since I have perfectly good lenses, I called Modo directly to see about acquiring a replacement frame, none of my calls have been returned. I really like the frame and would like to know how I can go about getting a replacement. The frame in question is black and the model is Modo MOD 1051. Thanks for reading.

Why can't the place where you purchased it help you? Did you ask it to be replaced for free? If it is still being made by Modo they can order it for you. If they cannot or will not go to another place to see if they can order it for you. The manufacturer will not sell to you directly. Forgive me but I feel we are not being given the entire story.

You can get this frame repaired. A real optical shop could offer to have the frame welded/soldered. Titanium can be soldered. Try another optical shop.

In response to the comments by DocInChina, I went to the place I purchased the eyewear and they told me that the frame was discontinued, since they did not see it the last time they ordered frames from the company. Essentially, I was told that I was out of luck. I do not know if any other stores sell Modo in my area, so I called the Modo head office and wanted to get some more info about warranty replacement and whether or not the frame is even available. I would like to speak to someone affiliated with Modo, even a sales rep, someone to answer my questions and possibly offer me a solution to my problem.

There is no optical shop that is willing to solder my frames, titanium must be soldered/welded in an oxygen deprived atmosphere filled with an inert gas. This sort of setup is not very common for most machine shops. I also tried some jewellery stores, but they told me that they do sell titanium but have no method of repair or modification. There are some places online that do repairs but the costs are quite high for joining titanium.

How long, exactly, is "a while back"? Most frames carry a 1-2 year warranty. If it's been discontinued, I'm willing to bet that it's older than 2 years.

It has been about 3-4 years since I acquired my eyewear. I was told that warranties are not as long as they used to be. However, I am willing to purchase a replacement frame if I am no longer eligible for a warranty replacement.

If it's discontinued and 3-4 years old, the chances of finding a replacement are slim to none. Sounds to me like it's time for a new exam and new eyewear.

I agree. If you cannot find the frame, even a solder is only a very temporary situation. It is unfortunately, but time to move forward.

Jetblack,
It is obvious that , you as a consumer, have not accepted the advice here. We were kind in steering you towards how to get the frame repaired, suggesting other optical shops who may be more knowledgeable, etc. It seems that you may be overdo for a full eye examination and eye health check anyway. Bottom line is...1.) The frame CAN be soldered. This may be at a significant savings from purchasing a full frame/replacement part. 2.) After 3-4 years......you are due for an eye examination. 3.) you are typical of most consumer posters...you ask for advice, we give it, you debate and whine blah, blah, blah. What more do you want from us? Get real. You have an outdated frame, an outdated rx, an outdated expectation on your eyecare needs, and an outdated plan to suck us dry of optical knowledge and advice.

Wow, I hope that Fezz is not indicative of all the members who post on this board. Such hostility is really unwarranted on any online forum.

I discovered this website and decided to post because I saw truly insightful and helpful threads whenever consumers had questions or problems. I decided to post, in order to get info about a particular company, specifically their warranty and the feasibility of finding replacement frames. I do not see what is so bad about asking such questions. I have not "whined" about anything, I am considering all my options and trying to find the best solution that will fit my budget as a student. I have received a few personal messages from kinder and obviously more intelligent individuals concerning my problem and I thank them very much for taking the time out of their day to help me.

Consumers are allowed to post on the Board, as long as the posts concern general eyecare related topics. However please be aware that any questions that involve diagnosing specific eyecare and eyewear problems are not appropriate for an online discussion forum. These kinds of questions should be discussed with a qualified eyecare professional who has examined you and is familiar with your situation. Posts asking for diagnostic help will be closed or removed.
