First and foremost, This thread isn't here to be a bit$% session.Let's face it, everyone hates a know-it-all. So let's do this: If you are a good optician, this is your chance to show face to the world and let them know that you make optics what it is. If you can groove a hair on a flea's butt with one hand while replacing the screw on a spring hindge with the other, let's hear it. If you have a leap pad ball the size of a tool shed, speak up. My reasoning is to meet people of a higher calibur and to highten the understanding of applied optics. My father always said "no matter who you think you are, there is always someone better". -That said, I would love to hear from the gurus and prodigies among us. If you love what you do, give the optical community something to utilize. Promote the degree of proffesionalism we all represent. --And may the best optician win.--Prizes include: 1 (one) cookie. I'll start with this---Clean poly with acetone-- yeah right.

Not all of us here make glasses these days. There's skill in matching Rx, frame, features, etc. that have a patient saying "these are the best glasses I've ever had". Sure, they had to be made correctly, but customizing or designing eyewear to meet the specific needs of a particular patient is valuable.

Having said that, I can be thanked for charging someone $650.00 for a pair of glasses. :o

It's not about the dollars, It's who we are in optics. I have been doing this from 1959, retired four and half years ago, and that lasted five months, and im still at it. Kind of stays in your blood. Optical has helped me put three girls through college. I don't think any other field can be any better. Just my two cents.

I agree with both of you-whether were in the lab, on the floor, or working up patients, optics is my field of choice. Both you guys are great.Keep being the baddest and best. I agree with you bill-it's in our blood.

I know I'm not the best optician. Not even close. But I know some people who are! And I will go to the ends of the earth for my patients, and then some to make sure their visual/fashion/comfort/lifestyle/economical needs are met.

I am on the WIT program. Whatever It Takes.

Don't get me wrong - I don't run willy-nilly through "customer service" excuses. I have an obligation to my employer too! And I make dang sure that I do my best to avoid a remake at the get-go. Because it benefits the patient to get the job done right the first time as well.

Well put. Whatever it takes. We could all benefit from a little etiquette towards patients. Something like that will surely make a stable relationship w/ customers.-------Keep on keepin on.

I haven't been in the biz too long (about 2.5 years), but I think that for my experience, I've learned a lot. One thing I pride in is my handstone abilities. When I started my current job, I broke a pt's 50 year old plastic frame. I didn't have an edger, and she was elderly and poor. So, I sold her a new frame and handstoned those lenses down about 10mm into the new frame. PD and Seg ht came out perfect! It took a long time, but I was quite pleased with myself!
