Are these two referring to the same product? If not, what is the difference between them?
Is there a Transitions VI?
Does Transitions lens come with a warranty card? What are the terms and conditions of the warranty?
Which AR coating works best with Transitions lens?
Thanks.

Hello JC1,
No, NG and V are two different animals. NG or Next Generation is available in standard index only. It comes in Gray and Brown. As for designs, depending on the manufacturer it is available in FSV, SFSV, Rd 24, ST28, ST35, 7x28 and 8x35 Trifocals and about 30 premium PAL designs.
Next Generation is the current standard that all photochromic products are held up too.
Transitions V was introduced last year. It is the premium technology for polycarbonate, TRIVEX™, 1.6 and 1.67 High Index products. It too is available in Gray and Brown and most designs, contact the manufacturers for their premium product designs.
No, there is no warranty card but there is a "certificate of authenticity" that the patient can fill out and register their eyewear. This insures that the patient received authentic Transitions.
Transitions products are compatible with all premium AR processes. As new AR lenses are developed by the major players, Transitions Lenses are part of the validation process before it is released. The same happens with new Transitions introductions, we send product to the major players to ensure compatibilty in their processes.
regards,
Jim

Jim,
Okay, let's see if I got this correct.
NG is simply Transition in most lens design types of CR-39.
Transition V is Transition in various high index types.
So what are the lens design types?
You said NG is the industry standard. Correct?
Standard for what:
End darkness?
Resting Lightness?
The widest range b/w light and dark?
Time from dark to light?
Time from light to dark?
Constancy with age?
Constancy with temperature?
Constancy with prescription powers
Photochromicity in the most materials, acrylics and beyond?
In UV filtration? Is that in dark state or light?
In IR filtration? " " " " " "
In blue light filtration? " " " " " "
The most sensitive regardless of the incident light setting?
Who else makes a photochromic acrylic?
Respectfully,
dbracer

Hello dbracer,
The reason it is understood that Transitions Next Generation is the industry standard that photochromic lenses are held up to is because Next Generation met the balance of properties or critical factors in developing a clear to color Rx photochromic lens.
Standard index Transitions are made from CR607® monomer, of which CR39® is its base. Transitions Next Generation lenses are available in the widest range of designs and nearly every premium progressive. No other technology can claim that.
Every photochromic lens developed since the NG launch in 2002 are compared and evaluated against Next Generation Lenses.
Every competitor has tried to best the whole Next Generation package (Indoor Transmission, Activation Speed, Darkened Transmittance, Fade Rate, Temperature Dependance, Color and Lifetime) and some have made a faster lens, or a clearer lens, but none has been able to top the whole package. They left a lot to be desired on the table.
If you concentrate on one factor, you will lose in other factors. Yes, you can make the lens clearer indoors, but to do so, you cut the photochromic load and lose out on darkness and hot weather performance. If you load up to make it darker, you lose on Indoor clarity. Keeping a lens from going chameleon (turning blue, green or orange) on you during activation and fade in all seasons is hard to do. Most competitors have not mastered this factor.
You can go to our website (transitions.com) and look up the spectras for the UV and IR information.
As for competive acrylic lenses, there are many out there. You can do a google search to find them.
Transitions V is the technology for poly, Trivex™, 1.6 high index and 1.67 high index. Depending on the manufacturer (our website has the latest dispensing guide) the lens designs are in aspheric and spherical FSV and SFSV and PALS, both conventional and direct surfacing.
Transitions Optical is the global leader in photochromic technology. We offer the best in balancing the critical factors. We were the first to have earned the AOA Seal of Acceptance for Ultraviolet Absorbers/Blockers and the WCO seal too.
There is room for improvement and that is what we concentrate on.
I hope this helps,
best regards,
Jim

Jim,
You've been very thorough. Thanks a bunch. You've told me several things I did not know.
It's hard to remember those things one is told, but about which one did not previously wonder. It's the mental question that prompts better learning. That's what makes these types of forums better for sustaining knowledge.
Thanks again,
dbracer
Hi everyone, the Transition VI will come 2008, the difference from
Transition V will be when in very dark situation to go back lighter color, the
time will faster. That means in the first minute the dark color will get lighter
faster before!
