Scary Movies

This wasn't the smartest move on my part, but last night I spent the evening watching "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" by myself in a dark apartment. I managed to scare myself silly, and I didn't go to bed until 4 am because I was too freaked out.:eek:

So, now in the light of day, I'm curious to hear what people think are the scariest movies around. Personally, I'm not into cheesy horror like "House of Wax" or "Halloween" (neither of which I've seen). What scares me most are the suspense of movies like "Cube" and "The Ring" (the original Japanese version, not the remake).

I made a similar mistake once- I watched Fallen alone in a dark apartment (the rest of the family was out visiting the in-laws). The song "Time is on My Side" still freaks me out!

I'm not a big fan of scary movies (usually avoid them), but Sixth Sense was really well done. I didn't make it all the way through Se7en...

Silence of the Lambs was pretty good- but the other two were just too over the top for me.

Finally, Schindler's List probably tops my all time scary movie list- the thought that something like that happened in real "civilized" life is beyond horrible. What a nightmare for humanity (and especially for the European WWII Jewish population). It wasn't just the Germans, either- it seems the entire world (including the US) simply turned their backs and ignored the facts...

When I was about five, I saw "The Thing" origional version with James Arness as the monster. I wouldn't open a closet or go much of anywhere dark, or cold for months.

I too found "Schindler's List" to be very disturbing. I first watched it when I was in high school, and to this day I can imagine (very vividly) the scene where the little girl is screaming "Go home Jews". It's such a frightening reminder that children are so impressionable.
