View Full Version : So Should I be worried about my Tinting?

Well, I got my Transitions for the first time about 2 months ago, and back then I was in Crew. We spent ALOT of time outside, like 4 hours+ so everyone really noticed my Lenses. I remember looking into the mirror and I saw solid black shades from a distance of about 4 feet or so. But also, back then it was like winter, so I'm guessing it was the temperature that caused them to go so black.

But now it's about 70F outside, give or take about 8 degrees on random days. My lenses now take alot more time to react to the UV and on top of that, they don't even get as dark. I can clearly see my eyes from the mirror when I look at myself from a distance from about 4 feet.

Should I be concerned or something that the transitions coat I got was messed up or something? Also, will it go back to the original quick and strong tint when fall comes back?

Thanks in advance.

Photochromics like Transisitions are temperature sensitive. The colder it is, the darker and faster they will change. So what you are experiencing is normal.

Hi NervousSystem,
For activities like Crew, you should be wearing a good polarized lens. Also, the wrap around style of many polarized lens products will add more uv protection.

You are using your Transitions lenses as sunwear. That is not the purpose of Transitions or any Rx photochromic lens. Rx photochromics are meant as everyday comfort lens for covenience of not having to carry two pairs. No Rx photochromic lens (that is a clear indoor product) will last the normal lifetime if you use them as a sports glasses, especially so when used on water.

Sportswear photochromic lenses start with a tint and have built in features that allow them to stand up to long periods outdoors in high uv energy environments (water and sand from watersports, snow in winter sports.

I hope this helps, best regards,
Jim

You think you got a problem. Think of how they don't work for us folks in the South where it actually gets Hot!

But then we don't let that stand in the way of making a sale (as a sunglass substitute).
