Hi All,
I'm trying to find out if I'm going crazy or if my eyes just screwed up. I went to the "other board" yesterday; probably not the smartest thing I've done in the past few days because I read a posting that ticked me off, but hey ;-) The posting was from someone named Bobi and they were wanting feedback on a new comprehensive eyecare plan that they were going to be handling.
What I found truly interesting (euphemism for "****** me off") was that the OAA, of all groups, were endorsing this plan. So you can imagine what happened in my brain after reading this. The thought of total world annihilation wasn't too far out of the question for me ;-)
So I go over; I...go...ovah...to see if their has been a response to me on this posting (I wasn't rude mind you I merely asked why my membership fees were spent to endorse a discount plan for eyewear and eyecare) When I get their low and behold the posting from Bobi as well as mine are gone. Now, this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that there was no explanation as to why, no e-mail to me from the OAA stating this was incorrect or false. The posting had merely vanished from the face of the earth (not saying that the OAA is the earth or anything :-).
So I'm sitting here scratching my head thinking, "What was that all about?" Keep in mind I'm not reading anything into this HOWEVER, if it is true the OAA might hear from me on a lot of occasions maybe even more than that even ;-)
If anyone would like to cover this up...er let me know what's going on with regard to this subject please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Darris "S.W.A.K." Chambless :-)
PS. I felt compelled to address this subject here because I really get ticked if I take the time to post and it is removed for any reason and not explained to me why. I don't want it removed again ;-)

Darris, Darris tsk tsk tsk....My dear friend stick to your wonderful friends on Optiboard where even if we don't know the answer to your questions we at least post your query. I sometimes still read posts on the "other board" but I rarely to never post on there. I must say however it has cleaned up quite a bit. If I feel someone on there really needs help I will e-mail them.
Have a great day!!!!

Howdy New eye guy,
The other board is the OAA board at www.optician.org. (http://www.optician.org.) It use to be okay but it became a haven for people just wanting to get on and cause problems. It's kind of like the "Trailer Park" of the optical neighbor nowadays :-) There were several people on the other board that didn't know that this board existed at the time I started visiting it so don't feel bad.
I've been over to the other board a few times in the last month and it has become more of a "jobs board" than anything else. I haven't been to the members board in so long I don't even think I can remember my password anymore.
I used to get into a lot of "discussions" with the OAA board members over there and then Judy had to go and spoil it all by becoming a board member ;-)(I can't yell at Judy, I can disagree with her diplomatically but I just can't yell at her :-) Those rats found my weakness, an intelligent, nice, sweetheart of a lady. I honestly think they were trying to get back at me by doing this :-)
Well, now you are informed and now you will forever wonder what it use to be like ;-)
Take care,
Darris C.

Darris,
You're making me blush...
I know how you feel about the Forum. I feel the same way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that OAA can get the contract issues straightened out that are preventing our board from growing and improving. Until then, I'll monitor as best I can, though I have no idea what happened to your post. Start saving your pennies, so you and Chad can join us at the next convention in Anaheim.

Judy Darling,
If Chad and I end up in Anehiem we'll be spending the majority of our time, one way or another, at the beach. Can they hold the convention at Venus Beach so that Chad, Pete and I can workout? We'd be killing two birds with one stone ;-) Not to mention I'm sure Pete wouldn't have any objection to watching beach bunnies :-) Nor would Chad or myself, but we're much more reserved than Mr. Pete :-)
I have a question: when you said "I'm keeping my fingers crossed that OAA can get the contract issues straightened out that are preventing our board from growing and improving." what are you talking about?
Talk to you later,
Darris "I'll be the weight lifter wearing the red thong :-)" Chambless

Hi Everyone! I am new to optiboard - old to specs. Am interested in specialty specs - specifically for general aviation. Anyone attending AOPA covention in Long Beach?
Also - we sell high-end. And I hate one of my lines - has anyone had any luck getting rid of large inventories of certain Calif. eyewear????

HI,
That erasing has happened to me and some optician from India, who was very, very intelligent and proper. You should have seen this resume of his, and it was carelessly erased, which is a real shame
.
Someone is on that board insulting the posters with obscene remarks and whoever is taking care of the board and edits the messages has poor judgement and to me is just plain lazy and doesn't care to get to the bottom of the problem the right way, so they just keep erasing valuable posters information.
They need a new web master with good judgement.

Well, having read all the responses, let me try to respond. OAA has been through a number of changes this past year, not the least of which involved the company who maintains the website. They are currently reviewing the existing contract and it is preventing any updates outside of what we can do in editing the Forum. I monitor the Forum for OAA and have been doing that for about a year and a half. It presents some interesting problems and issues, including posters who appear legitimate but who are also posting obscene replies just to start an argument, when that is the case, ALL of the posts will be removed. I apologize to those of you who have been erased accidentally. Sometimes mistakes are made. I can assure you all that none of us who are involved with the Forum are lazy or lacking in judgment. In fact, like everyone else, we are keeping many irons in the fire in support of professional Opticianry. Our jobs would be so much easier if every one of the more than 60,000 people in this country who identify themselves as Opticians were to become actively involved in preserving and promoting Opticianry.
