What has been the experience wearing and dispensing the Genesis and Piccolo from Shamir?

Love it!
Big fan here! I have had great success with this product line. Patients have been very pleased.
Side note...i think most progressive designs will work well *** if **** fit well, and made correctly, with customer expectations discussed and understood.

Very true. We get wrapped up in so much fuss without actually thinking about the difference. How much better is PAL A compared PAL B and is it worth the price difference to the consumer?

One of the easiest lenses to dispense. Patient satisfaction very high! I'm not a fan of poly so I switched to trivex. Highly recommend.

So Trivex is better than poly? My optician said that ploy are not like they used to be and that she is a fan.
My precscriptin is low enough that I was recommended to sue CR39. But is Trivex much lighter than CR39? Or is it not worth the cost increase since my RX is low?

I do agree that poly's manufacturing process has gotten better over the years but one thing that remains a constant is its abbe value of 29. Anything below a 40 the human eye starts to pick up on. This is especially true in progressives and stronger rx's.Trivex has a 43-45 abbe value. A 1.11 specific gravity versus poly's 1.20. 1.53 index with Trivex and 1.59 with poly. No, I don't think you would notice a big weight difference in your rx with poly, trivex, or cr39. However, if your looking for shatter resistance, built in uv protection, or have a rimless, or drill mount frame. I think trivex would be your best choice.

Hello there,
I wish all consumers were as well educated and as well versed as you.
The Shamir line is excellent...one of America's fastest growing 'optical stars'.
And, as DaQuano stated, if you are considering a rimless/drill mount, Trivex is the way to go.
: )
Let us know how you like the office lens...I continuously hear great feedback about the optics of that design, and the wonderful difference it makes with comfortable vision and ergonomics.

I have never used these lenses, but am interested in trying them.
I understand the Genesis is great for distance and good for near. On the charts it just looks fair for intermediate. Is this a accurate assessment of the lens? What is the minimum fitting height for this lens?
I understand the Piccolo is great for near and small frames. Is the minimum fitting height 16 or 17(I have seen both)? How is the distance with this lens and how is the intermediate?

The Shamir Genesis has a fitting height of 19 with the highest rating of no astigmatism astigmatism weighting combined for distance, intermediate, and far. You can refer to the study done by Dr. Sheedy in the AOA journal to get this information. The Shamir Piccolo ranks the same for near specialty usage with a minimum fitting height of 16. If you need an intermediate to near lens then they offer the Shamir office with a fitting height of 13 lower and 16 upper. Hope this info helps.
