Anyone know of a progressive lense that is available in an rx of -13.50-2.50x?
Any leads would be appreciated. It's for a 16 year old bilateral psuedophake.

Patient was two years old when he had surgery for congenital cataracts. Hard to blame the surgeon for that one

I could understand if he had come out with +26.00 or less. But ending up with -26.00. He blew it bad. Real Bad. And yes I can blame him.

Chip, where the heck are you getting -26.00 from that post? You drinkin' this early?

If the "doctor" had used no implant he would have gotten between +13.00 and +20.00 for a correction. This means that to end up with a correction of -13.50 he had to change the uncorrected situatio by at least 26.00. To end up with plano he would have needed +18.00 to +24.00 in the implant. To end up where he did, he would have to have used +36.00 or more (didn't even know they came this strong.

Of course there is a possibility that someone blew the sign and there is no implant and the Rx is +13.00 which seems more likely.

Also possible that at the time of surgery he was alot closer and now over the last 14 years his eyes have change.
FYI his vision corrects to OD 20/25 and OS 20/30. All things considered that is pretty good. I doubt he would have ended up that way as an apkake.

Have you considered contact lenses with spectacle readers? Monovision? The guy's 16 -think social life!

Don't go for monovision, either bifocal (I know a lot practioners don't admit they exist due to lack of skills or laziness) but young people need depth preception.

Try the Seiko 1.67 Progressive in a 1.00 base. Keep the frame as small as possible.

Bifocals are fine for home use but not in public. What are people's opinions with using contact lenses underneath progressives?

Mighty: The suggestion was for bifocal contact lenses. I hope the suggestion for mono-vision was for contact lenses also, because mono-vision sho' won't work in spectacles.

Mighty, why do you find this laughable? I have fit thousands of pairs over my 40+ year career. It's even hard to fit one that doesn't keep the consumer happy when the distance strength is over 5 diopters. Of course they are real new, I made my first one in 1958 and you may not have heard of them.

haha as in good idea...and no I have never fitted one.
Absoloutley no problems recommending:
Nikon Presio i Gi13 or Gi15 - power range up to -20D and + 6 Cyl
Fine lens too with IKON coating on. n=1.74
Gi13 has minimum fitting height of 18 mm
Gi15 has minimum fitting height of 21 mm
Use it all the time, and never had any problems yet
(Use Presio Fi if you want a n=1.67)

Just to update you on this patient. He is doing great with the progresssives. I am giving him a little time with the glasses, then we will be fitting him with RGP multifocal(bifocal) contact lenses. I'll let you know how that turns out.Cheers

Just wanted to update you all on this patient. He did very well with his progressive lenses. Thanks for everyones suggestions. I fit him in a bifocal rgp from Abba optical, called MVP. Patient is OD20/25-2, OS 20/25-2, OU 20/25. He is comfortably reading J3 at near and has no trouble seeing his computer. Remeber he is a 16 yo psuedophake since age two.

Hi,
we can make almost any progressive lens in that power either in blended myo or full field. I suggest however progressive in 1.6 or 1.66 index.

Thanks for the imput but his glasses have been made and he did very well with them. I was just updating anyone who cared about how his multifocal contact lens experience went.
