Review:
Many of us have a difficult time changing a spring or ball bearing temple (or at least I have.) I found, and ordered this "mini-vise" and for me it has saved so much time and effort in changing the hardest temple a breeze I must share this with you.The mini-vise works by 1st inserting a small metal post (supplied) when temple is aligned with the frame front hinge where the screw should go, then put in place the mini-vise. While holding the temple and frame front, stretch the spring to the maximum, when the spring is fully stretched place the STEEL WIRE that is on the mini vise as close as possible to the spring case then close the vise. This now is holding open the spring (with the wire & vise) remove the Metal post, you can then go wait on a patient come back and all is exactly as you left it. Install the screw, remove the vise and bingo your done! The whole process takes about 1 minute. If you or your staff are having trouble with spring hinges, this mini-vise works. I have purchased other products from this company and will continue to in the future. Robert Wagner

The product sounded interesting, but that web page is dead and some google searches turned up zilch.

Does this still exist on the market?

Hilco has a tool that does what sounds like the same thing. Here (http://www.hilco.com/catalog/catalog_browse.asp?ResultType=single&prodID=10190&IDType=internal)'s a link, which I hope works--it's part# 20/299/1000 if the link is screwy. I have one, and it works pretty well. It's still a two-person job if it's a ball-bearing hinge, though.

Hi Spartus- Do you recommend this tool for spring hinges?

Since we started coloring metal frames, we have bin receiving a lot of spring hinged frames for restoration of original colors like Gold, Silver …. Etc….

Re assembling the eyewear can be a pain in the a**:hammer:



Is the tool worth it?

For the price--shipping probably costs more than the tool--I highly recommend it. It's probably significantly more useful if you're doing many more spring hinge repairs than I do in a given day, which is two or three, tops.

Hilco's "threadseeker" screws make the job easy, too, but then you're clipping and filing, which is no fun either.
