View Full Version : Zeiss
I have just had a demo of the Zeiss 'Relax Vision System' that looks absolutely fantastic. Has anyone had experience of using the system in real life? If so how do you find it? Do you use it purely as a super measuring device or do you find it is a real pratcice builder? Is it worth $12,500!! ?
It would also mean switching a large part of my lens business from Essilor to Zeiss, not being up on zeiss lenses what success rates do people have with the lenses?
Thanks,
Lewy

What is it?
A 5mp digital capture device that also takes mono pd's, fitting heights, panto angle and BVD to a very high accuracy. this links in to their online ordering and tracing system to give a "perfect" fitting pair of PALs.

Oh ya, Essilor is try to put a whole system with that in my office. It also takes a picture so that it shows what the glasses look on and off.
Looks like another part of our job that is getting replaced.
Zeiss + Sola/AO = Zeiss Vision.
This equation should be sufficient for all lens needs.
?
Please expand to 2 decimal places!

I do not know. Both companies did a lot of the same thing. So all I see is greater R&D and size, but not really more choice, since they all had the same stuff.
Essentially they were sufficient on their own.

you just said it. These systems are geared to also order from the lab..............of course it will be a Zeiss or Essilor or Hoya lab. No setup for independent labs.
Another step forward for big corporation dominance.

No doubt they were sufficient.
I think of Sola/AO as having pretty technologically advanced progressives, and I guess the Teflon is pretty good, from what I've heard. Pretty good marketing, too.
I think of Zeiss as much more financially powerful, with excellent coatings. I think their progressive designs are kind of "sleepy", though. They could use the "new kid".

I am a sales consultant for Carl Zeiss Vision covering the New England Territory of the USA. One of my accounts in Massachusetts demo'd the RVT for a few months and liked it so much that he chose to purchase the unit. I believe he is the first optician in the USA to purchase the unit. He uses Zeiss as his lens of choice. He sells quite a bit of the Gradal Individual which requires the Panto and BVD. If you would like to have more information directly from him, I am sure he would be willing to contact you. Please let me know and I will contact him on your behalf.

The manufactors are finally getting tired of lousy fits of progressives by opticians, hairdressers, sales clerks ect. This leads to remakes and failures of the best lenses on the market. Would'nt surprise me if they did'nt give everybody that don't know how to fit progressives properly one of these things.
I'm still seeing customers with progressives fit too low, pd's off in one or both eyes and refitting them with great results. Even after 34 years of progressive lenses they are still the most "abused" lens on the market.
You want to pick up more business, just advertise that if you have tried progressives and failed or are having problems with your new ones, come in for a "FREE evaluation" and I'll tell you what's wrong.
This works I do it all the time.
IT'S THE FIT - IT'S THE FIT LEARN HOW TO FIT THEM AND THE PROBLEMS GO AWAY
If you don't care enough to do it right a $12,500 tool won't matter.
Gives this business a black eye.

I don't really have much competition, that is, people who do it right.
I don't get the customer remark. They are the innocent ones who get the crap by people in this business.
I've always said I stay busy off of other folks shoddy work. Hope they never stop.

...and the machines won't do the all-important frame adjustment, either. I'm saving my money...

Bill: It wasn't clear whether you were in the wholesale, lab or lens mfg. business or just another retailer like us.Had it been the former, your post sounded like you were fed up with the mistakes of your customers.
