2 suggestions really... first, with the chat room, why cant we schedule round table disscussions on certain subjects? Post them on the regular board, ie July 30, round table discussion on refractive surgery, moderated by whatsisname. Or Optom/Optician discussion on rx release. Some can be open and some by invitation with the discussion posted next day for feedback.Heck, this might actually get the three"Os" talking. Suggestion #2- A contact lens category. It might start a bit slow, but Id bet my bottom dollar it would be as big as "general" discussion within a year.

Dave,
The scheduled Chat session is a good idea. I've tried to encourage people to take the initiative to schedule one, but no one has taken the bait yet. Wanna be the first? :D
I'll have to think about the second idea, i.e., starting a contact lens forum. I'd like to hear from others first to see what they think. Believe it or not, the UBB software does not allow me to delete forum once it's created. Therefore I need to be very careful before starting new ones.

Hi Dave and Steve! I'll go on the chat as long as I don't have to work. Remember I have goofy hours!!! We used to go on the old one, but I really haven't been since there never seems to be anyone on there. I am not nearly the optician most of you guys on here are but I can try to keep up :)

Hi steve this is possible in the freeware version  under forum setting there is the option to turn forums on and off. Is this not on the full version.

O.K. you got me...I talk the talk, but do I walk the walk. Sure, If Its ok with you I would like to see an open discussion on "refractive surgery, the good, the bad and the ugly" I would be happy to host or moderate, especially if you tell me what the heck I'm supposed to do exactly. I propose this Thursday at 7.00 PST. This isnt much lead time, but the response might give us a better idea for lead times in the future. On your go ahead, I will post a notice on the main discussion board. I would hope to have at least one Optometrist and Ophthalmologist, but we"ll see.

Dave,
Go for it! It'll be an interesting experience. The only other time we set up a scheduled chat, about 10 people showed up. The resultinmg conversation was quite confusing at times. I'll plan to participate as well.

John,
Yea, I can turn Forums off. However they'll still take up space on my server, and will slow down certain functions, such as indexing. I really don't want to start another forum unless there's a real need.
The other factor which several people have mentioned is that if there are too many forums, it'll make it difficult to find the information you're looking for. Already I've seen people post things in in one forum that were more appropriate for another. The more forums there are, the more likely this will happen.

Steve i see your point about too many forums as i tend to only look in a few not all of them. If you do start anymore and decide to shut them down it is possible to delete all the posts as well to save server space had to do this several times with my test board. Keep up the good work :D

Steve:
You are right about too many forums and difficulty finding information. I usually go into the general discussion then follow the link to the day's active posts unless I have a new post to put up or have missed a day.
