Still seeking employment in MN

I haven't had any luck finding a job in my home state (MN). I've been insulted with a few offers but nothing more. I can't believe how little places are paying. Are people actually working for $8/hour? If so, how do we seperate ourselves from people working at fastfood places or other low paying mindless jobs?
