Lost Sound

Hi Geeks,

I have lost the sound on my computer and don't know what to do. The speakers are turned on, volume on. I hear a popping noise when I plug them in (same with the monitor speakers). I have checked the system settings as far as volume. Now what?? :confused:

have you lost all sound cd dvd wave etc.has the mute all sounds box been ticked ?have you checked the device manager (xp) for any errors

did all that. Still no sound. Can the sound board be bad and still show working running properly? BTW, this is a Dell running XP PRO.

Did you try rebooting your computer? My sound seems to just stop after a couple of day and to get it back I need to reboot.

I did that too. I shut down each night. Can the plug on the sound board go out?

Check XP's sound scheme setting........and make sure it is not set to NONE.
