I had a patient come back for a remake to take her out of the transitions lenses. She had been wearing them successfully since March. She went to the beach (here in Oregon) a few weeks ago and claims that something happened during that trip that changed the reactiveness of the lenses !! They aren't lightening much at all now ... Anyone heard of this before? It was a new one on me in my 16 years ... :hammer:

Probably stopped by the Oregon Vortex on her way to the Coast. Happens all the time. Probably a previously undocumented phenomenon. The usual complaint has to do with the alteration of the OC as one comes within 100 feet of the vortex.

The Oregon vortex.... Is this a NW version of the Bermuda Triangle?

Optigodess Karen,
Have you seen the lenses? Any chance I could get a hold of one? Call me if you get a chance.

If you still have them, place them under an incandescent light for a few minutes. That would bring any over exposed lens back to clear. This usually happens in dead winter, the lens became very dark from intense uv exposure caused by a sunny day with reflective ice, snow and cool temperatures.

Also, were the lenses backside hardcoated? If not, we have seen some 1.50 standard index lenses come back with a pink or light blue tint. This color was picked up on the backside of the from some cleaning products (colored len cloths when used with alcohol based cleaners.)

best regards,
Jim

JIm -

You really don't wanna know about the "vortex" ... ;)

Gosh !!! I wish I had kept them ... we are such a high volume store I'm sure they didn't make it thru the weekend ... HOWEVER .... if that ever arises AGAIN, I at least know what to try !!! (and I know for certain they weren't back coated)

In western Oregon, we are "mole" people ... we get CONFUSED when the "big yellow orb" appears in the sky ... (since we only get "real" sunshine 4 months of the year ....) but it's a beautiful place to live !!

Thanks, Jim

Karen
